Dolce & Gabbana rolls out another raunchy campaign
Balendu | Sep 1 2007

Dolce & Gabbana once again launched a raunchy advertisement campaign to promote autumn/winter 2007-8 collections. Both the designers have created images of women in dominatrix-style poses whipping naked men in an attempt to turn around the roles of female objectification. The entire campaign has been shot against a futuristic backdrop and it was shot by Steven Klein.

Speaking about the campaign Stefano Gabbana said to WWD, ‘It’s the vision of a dream more than reality, where the whip symbolises women’s power and where the naked models refer to a classic beauty inspired by Michelangelo’.

Gabbana and his partner Domenico Dolce are known for their suggestive campaigns that in the past have featured blood, knives and hints of mysogynistic violence. This campaign too seems to be continuation of their trend for what they are famous. The designer was compelled to clarify, ‘Since these images have offended someone, we want to stress that we wanted to represent a strong and dominatrix woman, as is today’s woman’.
