What had happened
Jean-Remy von Matt whose ad agency has been charged to cheer up Germans, says this in an email:

What happened next was expected. You don’t take chances with the wild west of the Blogosphere. You of course live to tell it, though. Mr. von Matt got a big lashing from the blogosphere. He was even called a ‘low -level moron’. I guess that’s a pretty big thing to say to puffed-up Ad Industry types.
That was of course one of the most searched items on the web. You of course remember the background to this story: The slogan of the 20 million pounds cheer-up campaign was
‘Du bist Deutschland’ which was found to have been used in Nazi Rallies and that caused a ruckus in the online and offline world as well. This in turn angered Mr. von Matt and thus his ill-fated remarks and then the angry online world and...It goes round and round.
