This television commercial for Kia landed in fierce controversy in Canada on the ground that it has allegedly distorted the image of Canadian police. The Advertising Standards Canada has received several complaints regarding the commercial urging that the commercial should be banned from airing.
Montreal police Brotherhood and provincial police association have vehemently criticized the ad alleging the ad ahs presented a demeaning portrayal of female police officer.
However, ASC has ruled that the advertisement will now be aired only after 9 in the evening. The advertisement has clearly escaped a ban very closely. The advertisement in question is being aired since late December. Kia Canada had referred all comment on the controversy to the advertising agency.
The punch line of the ad says, ‘life’s better in a Spectra’. The ad was produced by Publicis, Canada.
