Lenovo:Robinson Crusoe rescued by Ideapad's face recognition technology
Alpheus | Aug 19 2008

Lenovo seems to have executed a reprise of its pan-language ad that sells its face-recognition password technology. And, it has been quite a success so far. A Robinson Crusoe alter ego gets stranded on an island and over a period of time, develops a hideous disposition. And when rescue comes and our hero returns home, his folks fail to recognize him thanks to his unkempt hair. However, Lenovo, as reliable as ever, ensures a happy ending by matching his face with the existing password. Saccharine sweet and quite effective. No gripes whatsoever!

I really wonder if thats possible. Small changes like beard, moustache, scars, etc could cause a face to be unrecognizeablle. If the Ideapad can do it bravo, but i remain skeptical. I think retinal scans are the way to go :).

I think (I’m not sure), it takes into account facial contours for recognition. For men, a stubble appears in 24 hrs, so like you say, the Ideapad wouldn’t be able to recognize the user. Doesn’t make sense if that is the case (only women can use it then!). What say??
