Microsoft's latest campaign: 'I'm a PC'
Madhuri Katti | Sep 19 2008

Microsoft is back with its new video commercial ‘I’m a PC’ to counter Apple’s ‘I’m a Mac’. The video stars few faces from Microsoft including Bill Gates, Sean (software engineer in the pic above) among other well known people like Deepak Chopra, actress Eva Longoria and singer Pharrell Williams. They all proudly claim ‘I’m a PC’! The ad cleverly embraces and celebrates the ’stereotype’ (another dig from Apple’s camp).

This second phase of ad campaign ‘Life without walls’ is definitely more trendy and maybe aims to make even consumers feel proud. Ofcourse make no mistake, its the war of words, campaign & counter campaign of Apple and Microsoft which make these ad campaigns more interesting! Watch the video after the jump.

I’m a PC and I’m in an internet cafe paying for this because I have lost a vital ’dll’ file so I can’t open my ’Windows’.
It almost makes me with I was a Mac.....

Hope you’re well Madhuri!!

Thanks Michael for this input...even I am facing PC troubles. Microsoft must improve and innovate their products to keep ahead in the competition!

Bill Gates is an acting pro!

Maybe he is exploring new vistas!

I’m a sociopath and I’m a PC!

Thats a good line to join the campaign!

Hi Madhuri,

it is very common for the brands across indusrties to counter each other through various similar schemes, logos, and ads. Recently, two cola giants got into such an altercation. Outsmarting each other with better branding and marketing strategies is very much acceptable. I remember years ago, Tata Salt filed a suit against the Captain Cook Salt for making similar type of ad. It is not new. Outsmarting the competitor is the very essence of the marketing game but certain marketing and advertising ethics must be maintained.

I really enjoyed the I’m Mac campaigns, and was kinda a disappointed with the PC announcement. It looks kind of jumping into a bandwagon of sorts. Microsoft could have come up with something better if they had tried harder. They did rope in Sienfeld, but some more innovation is required.

Yes, I agree Radhika...where is the innovation?

I think this campaign is wrong strategically. A leader is portraying itself as the victim. And elevating a much smaller competitor to an equal. I am glad I am a Mac!

I agree, microsoft should have come up with a different marketing strategy...
