This television commercial of Mentos Ice chewing gum was held most complained-about advertisement last year in Australia. According to a figure released by Advertising standards Bureau, this advertisement received more than 220 complaints from public. However, the advertisement closely escaped a ban as the ASB ruled that it did not contain inappropriate sexual, nude or discriminating material.
In the year 2006 the ASB has received a total 520 complaints regarding advertisements, the figure up from 393 complaints received in 2005. However, 91 percent of cases were dismissed and no action was taken against the ads in question.
Following is an anti-smoking ad showing a woman affected by mouth cancer that received more than 200 complaints but these complaints were also dismissed by the ASB. The ad was held second most complained-about advertisement.
