Dolphins are deemed to be the most intelligent animal species on the planet. You might have encountered dolphins in entertainment parks and dolphin parks. A majority of the dolphins cruise in the open seas and it would really be strange if you have not heard of dolphin-saves-human kind of stories. However, tragedy unfolds almost everyday on these amiable creatures when they get entangled in nets cast by fishermen unintentionally. The WWF in New Zealand has used guerrilla marketing techniques to shock people into awareness about the dolphins’ plight and to get the parliament to act upon fish nets. WWF started to make life size Maui’s dolphins appear ‘trapped’ across high profile fences including the one near the parliament in Auckland. The campaign has received significant TV and press coverage. Unconventional marketing methods such as these are necessary when one cannot afford to spend a lot of money on ad campaigns.

Dolphins really are the friendliest of the sea creatures. I lived on an island for quite some time and every time we get out onto open sea we’d find dolphins swimming by keeping speed with us. But I must admit, they are real proud and love to show-off. Slow down and they might fly right over your boat, if it is low lying. They’re so beautiful, why would anyone want to harm them?
